Professional Scrum Master

About This Course

Scrum is the most widely used agile framework, but knowing how it works is not the same as being able to make it work. This course is designed for people who want to operate as effective Scrum Masters - facilitating the Scrum events with purpose, supporting the team to self-manage, removing impediments, and coaching Product Owners and stakeholders on how to get the most from the framework.

The course is structured around the Scrum Guide 2020 and covers the theory, values, and empirical foundations of Scrum alongside the practical accountabilities of the Scrum Master role. It includes exercises and scenarios drawn from real team contexts, with a focus on developing judgment rather than just knowledge.

This is a preparation course for the Professional Scrum Master I (PSM I) assessment from Scrum.org. Passing the assessment is not required, but candidates who complete this course are well placed to attempt it.

What You'll Learn

Explain the empirical foundations of Scrum - transparency, inspection, and adaptation - and describe how they underpin every element of the framework
Describe the five Scrum values and explain why they are essential to the effectiveness of a Scrum Team
Explain the accountabilities of the Scrum Master, Product Owner, and Developers and describe how they interact
Facilitate the five Scrum events with clarity and purpose, and explain the value each creates within a Sprint
Describe the three Scrum artifacts and their associated commitments, and explain how they support transparency
Explain how the Scrum Master serves the Scrum Team, the Product Owner, and the wider organisation
Identify common failure patterns in Scrum implementations and describe how a Scrum Master can respond to them
